Obverse description Right-facing bust of Pope John XXIII wearing the papal mozetta and embroidered vestments, rendered in high relief with fine detail on the drapery. The pontifical effigy is positioned centrally, occupying the majority of the field. The circular legend reads IOANNES XXIII P M, interrupted at the base by the Roman numeral I denoting the first year of his pontificate, flanked by small decorative stars. The portrait conveys a dignified and naturalistic likeness characteristic of mid-twentieth-century Vatican medallic art.
