The Banca Cattolica del Veneto was founded in Vicenza in 1892, rooted in the Catholic social banking movement that spread through northeastern Italy in the late nineteenth century as a direct response to secular cooperative credit institutions. This note was issued for the bank's centenary in 1976 — the "1076-1976" date range referencing the legendary founding of Vicenza itself, not any actual medieval banking activity.

Centenary issues of this kind circulated as commemorative pieces rather than transactional currency, and most survived intact.
