| 正面描述 | Left-facing effigy of Italia personified as a female bust wearing a mural crown, her hair swathed in draped fabric. The designer's signature L.CRETARA appears to the right of the neck truncation, flanked by two stars below. The encircling legend reads REPVBBLICA ITALIANA in Latin characters. The portrait style is refined and neoclassical, characteristic of Laura Cretara's work for the Italian mint. |

This issue belongs to the final stretch of the Italian lira's existence before euro conversion rendered the entire denomination series obsolete on January 1, 2002. The 100 lire coin had been a fixture of everyday Italian commerce since the postwar republic's monetary reconstruction, but by the 1990s inflation had so eroded its purchasing power that vending machines and payphones across Italy had largely stopped accepting it.
Billions were struck across the series' run, and survivors in any condition are effectively worthless to circulation finds — the interest lies almost entirely in mint-state examples from the final 2001 dated issues, the last before the lira ceased to be legal tender.
