备注

Banca Nazionale nel Regno d'Italia was not Italy's central bank in any modern sense — it was the dominant but perpetually contested issuing institution in a country that still permitted several regional banks to print competing currency. The 1882 date places this note squarely in that uneasy pluralism, nearly two decades before the Banca d'Italia absorbed it in 1893 following the catastrophic Banca Romana scandal, which exposed fraudulent over-issuance across the Italian banking system and forced a long-overdue consolidation.

Printing at the San Teodoro facility in Rome was handled entirely in-house by the state apparatus — unusual for the period, when major European issuers routinely contracted private security printers abroad. The watermark remains the sole mechanical security feature on this type.
