Part of Turkey's long-running "Anatolian Civilizations" bullion series, this issue draws on the Hittite empire that controlled much of Anatolia from roughly 1650 to 1200 BC — the same civilization that concluded the Treaty of Kadesh with Ramesses II around 1259 BC, the earliest surviving peace treaty known in written record. The Darphane has issued these small-format gold pieces in consistent annual runs, targeting collector-investors rather than circulation.
