Elbasan's "Normale" — the Ottoman-era school founded in 1909 — holds an outsized place in Albanian national memory as the institution where the standardized Albanian alphabet was formally adopted and codified. The Congress of Elbasan that year settled decades of competing scripts, including Arabic, Greek, and Latin variants all vying for official status. This coin marks the school's 110th anniversary.
