The League of Prizren, founded in 1878 in what is now Kosovo, was the first major Albanian political organization to formally argue for a unified Albanian territory under a single administration — a direct response to the Treaty of San Stefano and the subsequent Congress of Berlin, both of which threatened to partition Albanian-populated lands among neighboring states. The Ottoman Empire initially tolerated the League before suppressing it militarily in 1881 when its demands turned toward outright autonomy.
The 2013 commemorative marks the 135th anniversary of the League's founding.
