| Beschrijving voorzijde | At center, the Romanian Coat of Arms is displayed within a circular medallion, the border of which is ornamented with stylized lotus buds and palmette motifs derived from the decorative repertoire of a Getic ceremonial vessel from the Agighiol Treasure. The legend 'ROMANIA' arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination '100 LEI' is inscribed along the lower periphery. The year of issue '1999' appears horizontally in the left and right fields flanking the central medallion. |

The Golden Helmet of Poiana Coțofenești is a fourth-century BC Getic artifact unearthed in 1929 in Prahova County — one of the most significant pieces of pre-Roman Dacian goldwork ever found, now held in Bucharest's National History Museum. Romania's late-1990s gold commemorative program drew heavily on Thracian and Getic material culture at a moment when post-communist national identity was actively being reconstructed around pre-Roman heritage. The helmet itself weighs over 700 grams of native gold, which makes the coin honoring it a study in contrasts.
