Myanmar's Security Printing Works at Wazi produced this note domestically — a point worth noting given the country's near-total economic isolation under the SLORC junta through the mid-1990s. The regime had renamed both the country and its central bank in 1989, and the currency series that followed reflected a deliberate effort to project institutional normalcy from a government that had just annulled a general election.

The watermark is the sole documented security feature, which left the series relatively exposed to counterfeiting — a persistent problem in Myanmar through this period, particularly along the Thai and Chinese border trade corridors.
