100 Kwanzas Olympics

Angola's 1999 Olympic issue was struck at a moment when the country was still deep in civil war — the conflict between the MPLA government and UNITA would not end until 2002. Commemorative silver programs from this period were financed and distributed almost entirely through foreign coin dealers, with essentially no domestic circulation. The Banco Nacional de Angola used such issues primarily as hard currency earners.
