The commemorative dates '1094.' and '1994.' flank the central design at mid-field, marking the 900th anniversary of the founding of the Zagreb Bishopric. Issued in the first years following Croatian independence, this coin commemorates the Church of St. Blaise in Dubrovnik, the city's patron saint having protected it — according to legend — from a Venetian surprise attack in 971 AD. The church visible in Dubrovnik's Old Town today is an 18th-century reconstruction after the catastrophic 1667 earthquake leveled much of the city.
Two catalog variants exist (KM#25.1 and KM#25.2), distinguished by edge lettering differences.
