The 1992 Estonian monetary reform was one of the most decisive currency breaks in post-Soviet history. On June 20, 1992, Estonia replaced the transitional ruble with the kroon, pegged at 8 to 1 Deutsche Mark — a fixed rate the country held without devaluation until euro adoption in 2011. The reform was designed in close collaboration with the IMF and drew directly on the interwar Estonian kroon as its model, a deliberate act of institutional continuity with the pre-occupation republic.
This commemorative 100 Krooni was struck in the reform's inaugural year to mark the event itself. The .925 silver specification places it firmly in the prestige issue category rather than anything intended for the till.
