Estonia declared independence on 24 February 1918, though the young republic spent its first year fighting simultaneously against Bolshevik and Baltic German forces before the 1920 Tartu Peace Treaty secured its borders. This platinum issue marks ninety years from that declaration. The .999 platinum specification and 7.775 g weight place it squarely in the quarter-ounce platinum bullion format, though it was issued as a commemorative rather than a bullion coin, with mintages tight enough that secondary market appearances remain infrequent.
