Aktiebolaget Spetsbergens Svenska Kolfält was a Swedish mining company operating in the Svalbard archipelago under the terms established before Norwegian sovereignty was formalized by the 1920 Svalbard Treaty. These notes functioned as company scrip — a closed monetary system used to pay workers and control expenditure within the remote Arctic settlement at Spitsbergen, where no national banking infrastructure existed.

The scrip was redeemable only within the company's own store and payroll system, effectively tying wages to the issuer. Norwegian sovereignty was formally exercised from 1925, after which such parallel currency arrangements became untenable.
