Norway hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics at Lillehammer — the last Games held just two years after the previous Olympics, before the IOC shifted to the current staggered four-year cycle between Summer and Winter editions. The Royal Norwegian Mint issued a commemorative series across 1992 and 1993 in advance of the Games, of which this figure skating piece is one entry.
