Pick 49 was the last of Norges Bank's seventh series to be retired, remaining in circulation well past the 2017 introduction of the eighth series while redemption windows stayed open. The note ran through an unusually long production span — over a decade — during which multiple signature combinations appeared, with the Gjedrem/Eklund and Olsen/Eklund pairings both dating to 2014, reflecting the governorship transition from Svein Gjedrem to Øystein Olsen in 2011.
The cotton substrate proved durable enough that heavily circulated examples often show ink wear before structural paper damage.
