| Aanvullende informatie |
Janko Kráľ was a Slovak Romantic poet and revolutionary who participated in the 1848 Slovak uprising against Hungarian rule — one of the first armed Slovak nationalist actions of the modern era. This coin was issued to mark the 150th anniversary of his birth. Kráľ spent years imprisoned and in forced military service for his political activities, dying in relative obscurity in 1876. The Czechoslovak state's decision to feature him on a commemorative issue was a deliberate acknowledgment of Slovak cultural identity within the federal republic, particularly meaningful following the 1968 constitutional reforms that formally established the Slovak Socialist Republic.
