This issue was part of Czechoslovakia's long-running silver commemorative program, struck to mark the 150th anniversary of Smetana's birth. The Czechoslovak State Bank produced these in both proof and circulation quality, with the latter seeing genuine handling — a detail that matters because .700 silver at this weight work-hardens unevenly, and circulated pieces often show fine hairlines across the fields before any edge wear appears on the devices.
Smetana himself went completely deaf in 1874, exactly a century before this coin's issue date.
