Additional information

Issued to mark the tenth anniversary of liberation from Nazi occupation, this coin appeared the same year Czechoslovakia was consolidating its position within the Soviet bloc — the political subtext of "liberation" had by 1955 shifted firmly toward crediting the Red Army rather than the Allied effort as a whole. The design commission and production fell entirely under the direction of the Czechoslovak state mint in Kremnica, which had resumed full operations after wartime disruption only gradually through the late 1940s.

KM#45 is not rare, but survivors in genuinely unimpaired condition are less common than mintage figures suggest — these circulated as commemoratives often do in socialist economies, pressed into everyday use when silver was trusted and paper was not.
