| Reverse description | The central composition illustrates the transition from Papua New Guinea's traditional subsistence economy to its modern industrial and service sectors, with vignettes of coffee beans, cardamom seeds, a coconut tree, fish, and timber representing primary production, while a cargo container ship, an oil rig, a dumper truck, and a mobile signal tower symbolise extractive industries, logistics, and technology. |

Papua New Guinea hosted APEC in 2018 — only the second time the summit had been held in a Pacific Island nation — and the Bank of Papua New Guinea issued this commemorative polymer note to mark the occasion. NPA's involvement is routine for the region, but the timing gave this note a specific political weight: the Port Moresby summit ended without a leaders' declaration for the first time in APEC's history, a direct result of the US-China trade dispute deadlock.
Commemorative issue, not intended for general circulation, though some entered it regardless.
