The semi-circular legend ХРЕЩЕННЯ КИЇВСЬКОЇ РУСІ (Christianization of Kievan Rus) arches above the composition in the upper field. Below the scene, the inscription 988 РІК (Year 988) records the historic date of the event. The overall design is executed in an elaborate pictorial style characteristic of Ukrainian commemorative coinage of this period. |
