A large red guilloche underprint occupies the central field, over which the bank title and denomination are printed in bold letterpress. The 100 Gulden Auxiliary Note (Pick 32) was issued by De Nederlandsche Bank under wartime emergency provisions in 1914, when the outbreak of the First World War triggered an immediate run on gold and silver that threatened to collapse the conventional note supply. These auxiliary issues were authorized under a special act passed within days of Dutch mobilization, giving the Bank emergency latitude to issue paper well beyond its normal statutory gold cover requirements.
The printing date of 30 April 1945 places this particular example at an extraordinary moment — the final day of Nazi occupation in the Netherlands, as liberation swept northward and German administration collapsed. Notes dated that specific day are rare in circulation terms.
