附加信息

Anthony Nesty's 1988 Olympic gold in the 100m butterfly at Seoul made him the first Black athlete to win an Olympic swimming title and the first Olympic gold medalist from Suriname — a result that stunned the heavily favored American Matt Biondi by a hundredths-of-a-second margin. The shock at home was significant enough that Suriname issued commemorative coinage, despite the country having almost no competitive swimming infrastructure to speak of.

The KM#42.1b designation distinguishes this copper-nickel striking from related varieties in the same series.
