Obverse description Central device depicts a bishop's throne (cathedra) with a long sword positioned vertically before it, evoking the temporal and ecclesiastical authority of the Patriarchate of Friuli. Two decorative floral or heraldic ornaments flank the dates 1077 and 1977 in the upper field, commemorating the 900th anniversary of the founding of the Patria del Friuli. The Friulian-language legend curves along the left and right periphery of the coin in upright Latin lettering.
