Albania's first post-Ottoman coinage program launched in 1926–27 under Ahmet Zogu, who had declared himself President and was maneuvering toward kingship — a title he would formally assume in 1928. The French firm Monnaie de Paris produced these pattern pieces as part of the approval process for the new national coinage, with "Prova" denoting its trial status under Italian numismatic convention, reflecting Rome's heavy financial and political sponsorship of the nascent Albanian state.

Very few examples were struck, and the series as a whole remains poorly documented in terms of exact surviving populations.
