| Obverse description | Frontal close-up portrait of the Statue of Liberty, depicting her crowned head with the characteristic seven-pointed radiate crown, rendered in high relief against a polished field. Seagulls in flight are scattered across the upper field surrounding the crown's rays, evoking the New York Harbor setting. To the right of the effigy, the commemorative dates '1886' and '1986' are engraved in two stacked lines, marking the centennial of the statue's dedication. Across the lower portion of the coin, a recessed panel carries the two-line legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE' in bold upright lettering. The overall composition is the work of engraver Michel Durand-Mégret and exemplifies the refined artistic style of the Monnaie de Paris. |
