Niger's "Sonic Boom" issue belongs to a wave of small-format gold novelty pieces produced for the collector market by African franc zone nations in the 2010s — countries whose monetary policy is governed by the BCEAO and whose coin programs are largely contracted to European minting houses with little domestic involvement.
