| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing effigy of Prince Rainier III, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and a strong, youthful profile. The legend RAINIER III PRINCE DE MONACO curves along the upper periphery within a beaded border. The engraver's signature P. TURIN and the date 1950 appear in the lower field beneath the portrait. The design is executed in a clean, modernist style characteristic of Pierre Turin's work for the Paris Mint. |

| Additional information |
Essais struck for Monaco in this period were produced in very limited quantities — typically fewer than 500 pieces — for submission to the Monegasque monetary authority and select distribution to collectors and officials. Rainier III had assumed the throne only in 1949 following the death of Louis II, and the 1950 coinage program represented the new prince's first substantive effort to establish a distinct numismatic identity for the principality.
