Additional information

The "Praying Hands" motif derives from Albrecht Dürer's 1508 preparatory brush drawing, created as a study for the Heller Altarpiece commissioned by Frankfurt merchant Jakob Heller — a painting later destroyed by fire in the early 17th century. The drawing survived. The DRC has issued a recurring series of miniature gold devotional pieces exploiting the low barrier to entry of the 1-gram format, targeting the collector market rather than any domestic monetary function.
