Aversbeschreibung Central field features the national coat of arms of Cameroon, depicting a shield bearing scales of justice, flanked by crossed fasces and topped by a star, with a banner inscribed REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN below the shield. The bilingual legend arcs around the upper periphery in French and English, with the denomination 100 FRANCS CFA positioned prominently in the lower exergue. The design is rendered in a prooflike finish with mirror fields contrasting against the relief devices.

Reversbeschreibung Central effigy depicts a right-facing portrait bust of Pope John Paul II wearing his zucchetto, rendered in fine relief. The field surrounding the papal portrait is populated with an array of Christian iconographic symbols, including an open Bible, bread and wine, a crown of thorns, a crucifix with the figure of Christ, a rising sun behind a coffin, an Agnus Dei (lamb with cross), a dove in flight, an Eye of Providence within a triangle, a papal crown, four candles with a nativity crib, and a standing cross. The encircling legend identifies the subject and commemorates his beatification, with the date 1.5.2011 inscribed below.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Cameroon has issued commemorative pieces under its own authority since independence, but by the 2000s the country had become a vehicle for European private minting houses producing collector-market pieces with no meaningful domestic circulation. This 2011 issue falls squarely into that category — struck almost certainly by a European contractor and exported directly into the collector trade, never touching Cameroonian commerce.

John Paul II died in 2005 and was beatified in May 2011, which likely triggered this release.
