Obverse description Left-facing bareheaded bust of Marianne, the allegorical personification of the French Republic, rendered in a flowing, expressive style by engraver Raymond Joly, whose signature R.JOLY appears in the right field. Her hair streams freely behind her in loose, windswept locks. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE arcs around the upper periphery, while the issuer's abbreviation I·E·O·M and the date 1979 are inscribed in the lower field beneath the effigy.
