Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Napoleon III facing right, depicted with a short beard and moustache. The emperor wears a laurel wreath with berries, rendered in fine relief against a mirror-polished field. The legend NAPOLEON III encircles the upper left, with EMPEREUR continuing along the right periphery. The engraver's signature E BARRE appears in two lines beneath the bust truncation. The entire design is enclosed by a finely executed inner toothed border.
