Reverse description A right-facing portrait bust of Marie Curie (1867–1934) occupies the central field, rendered in fine relief in the style of engraver Raymond Corbin. The surrounding legend reads '· MARIE CURIE ·' with her birth and death years '· 1867 - 1934 ·' incorporated into the inscription. The engraver's signature 'CORBIN' appears in the field. Marie Curie was a physicist and chemist of Polish origin who, alongside her husband Pierre Curie, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903; she later received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1911 for her pioneering research on polonium and radium.
