| Reverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Marie Curie in high relief, her hair styled in a characteristic late 19th-century upswept manner. The legend MARIE CURIE arcs across the upper field, with her birth and death years 1867–1934 inscribed in the lower field. The engraver's name CORBIN appears in small characters at the lower right of the bust truncation. The portrait is rendered in a realistic, medallic style befitting a commemorative issue. |

| Additional information |
Issued the year France was preparing to transfer Marie Curie's remains to the Panthéon — the ceremony took place in April 1995, but institutional commemoration began well before — this coin arrived during a period of renewed national focus on her work. She remains the only woman interred there on her own merits. The silver-plated bronze composition placed it in an awkward middle tier: too fine for pocket change, too common for serious collectors.
