| Reverse description | The denomination 100 FRANCS is displayed in two bold lines at the centre of the field, separated from the date 1831 by a horizontal rule, with the mint mark A (Paris) to the right of the date and an anchor-like privy mark to the left. The entire central motif is encircled by a wreath composed of olive branches on the left and oak branches on the right, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. A beaded border frames the design on the outer edge. The composition is symmetrical and typical of the formal, classical style employed for French pattern coinage of the period. |

| Additional information |
This is an essai struck in 1831 to test the proposed 100 francs gold denomination under Louis-Philippe, who had taken the throne the previous year following the July Revolution. The use of bronze-plated lead — rather than gold or silver — was standard practice for circulation trials submitted to the administrative review process at the Monnaie de Paris, where weight approximation mattered more than metal value at the pattern stage.
The 100 francs gold coin was never issued for circulation under Louis-Philippe.
