| Obverse description | The obverse features a high-relief adaptation of Eugène Delacroix's celebrated painting 'Liberty Leading the People,' depicting the allegorical figure of Liberty as a bare-shouldered woman striding forward, her right arm raised aloft brandishing a large tricolor flag while her left hand grasps a musket with fixed bayonet. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap and a loosely draped classical garment that falls from her shoulders. The monogram 'RF' (République Française) appears prominently in the left field.
