Additional information

Marie-Marguerite of France, born in 1664 to Louis XIV and Maria Theresa of Spain, died at Versailles in 1672 before reaching her eighth birthday. She was one of six children the queen bore who failed to survive childhood — a mortality rate that haunted the Bourbon succession and shaped French dynastic politics for decades. This coin belongs to the Monnaie de Paris "Infantas" series commemorating the Spanish-born daughters and granddaughters of French royalty whose lives intersected the two crowns during the seventeenth century.
