Obverse description A fully rendered lion in profile facing right, standing on a grassy ground, occupies the central field. The country name REPUBLIQUE DEMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, all within a beaded border. The denomination 100 FRANCS appears in the lower field beneath the lion. The overall design is struck in high relief with a polished proof finish.

Additional information

The Democratic Republic of Congo has issued a long and somewhat chaotic series of wildlife-themed gold and silver pieces through the early 2000s, many produced by foreign minting houses and distributed almost entirely through the European collector market rather than through any domestic channel. This kingfisher piece falls squarely within that output — a collector bullion item with negligible connection to Congolese monetary circulation.

KM#154 is documented but mintage figures for this series are notoriously unreliable in the published literature.
