| 表面の説明 | The national coat of arms of Niger occupies the central field, depicting a shield charged with a sun, crossed spears, and a zebu head, flanked by two national flags on crossed staffs. A flowing ribbon banner below the shield bears the legend REPUBLIQUE DU NIGER. The word INDEPENDANCE arcs prominently along the upper legend, while the denomination 100 FRS and the independence date 3 AOUT 1960 are inscribed in large characters across the lower field. |

Niger's independence from France was proclaimed on August 3, 1960, and this commemorative was among a small group of West African gold issues struck almost immediately to mark the transition. The series was produced by the Paris Mint under contract — a quietly ironic arrangement given the political circumstances — and distributed primarily as presentation pieces rather than circulating currency.
Mintage was extremely low, likely in the hundreds rather than thousands.
