Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing portrait bust of Prince Jean of Luxembourg occupying the central field, rendered in high relief with fine detail. To the lower left, a crowned heraldic shield bearing fleurs-de-lis, and to the lower right, a smaller armorial device. The circular legend reads 'PRENZ JEAN VU LETZEBURG' along the upper periphery, with the denomination '100 F.' inscribed below the bust near the rim. The word 'ESSAI' appears discreetly in the right field, and the engraver's initials 'A.B.' are incused below the portrait, attesting to Bonnetain's authorship.
