| Additional information |
The Ivory Coast has issued a long series of small-format gold pieces bearing international figures — King among them — that occupy an awkward commercial niche: too small for serious bullion investment, too mass-produced for meaningful numismatic depth. These are private mint issues distributed primarily through European coin dealers, with the CFA denomination serving as nominal legal-tender status granted by the Ivorian government rather than reflecting any genuine monetary function in the country.
King was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis on April 4, 1968.
