Additional information

The Junkers Ju 52 was a German trimotor transport aircraft that served extensively from the 1930s through World War II, operated by the Luftwaffe as a troop carrier and later by numerous civilian airlines well into the postwar decades. The Republic of the Congo had no particular connection to the aircraft — this is one of dozens of themed collector issues struck for the Congolese mint program during the 1990s, a period when several small African nations licensed their nominal coinage authority to produce foreign-market commemoratives with no intended domestic circulation.
