Ivory Coast's use of Joan of Arc as a coin subject has nothing to do with any Franco-Ivorian historical connection — it is purely a commercial decision by the Pobjoy Mint and similar private producers who license the BCEAO's issuing authority to manufacture small-format gold pieces sold directly to collectors in Western markets. The coins are legal tender in name only; none enter circulation in Côte d'Ivoire.
