The Edelweiss series, issued under the West African CFA franc framework through the Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest, represents a recurring pattern of Ivorian bullion and collector issues marketed almost entirely to the European numismatic trade — a coin with essentially no circulation relationship to its nominal issuing country. The edelweiss itself is a plant with no botanical connection to West Africa whatsoever.
