| Reverse description | A finely detailed full-body portrait of a Congo Peafowl (Afropavo congensis) stands facing left in the central field, rendered with meticulous feather detail and surrounded by stylized tropical foliage including broad leaves and vegetation. The species name 'Paon du Congo' is inscribed along the upper left periphery, while the conservation legend 'PROTECTION DE LA NATURE' arcs boldly along the lower periphery. The date '1992' appears in the right field among the foliage. The composition reflects the naturalist artistic style typical of African wildlife commemorative issues of the period. |

| Additional information |
The Congo Peafowl (*Afropavo congensis*) wasn't confirmed to science until 1936, when James Chapin identified museum specimens that had been misidentified for decades as juvenile feathers of another species. Endemic to the dense rainforests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo — not the issuing Republic of the Congo — its appearance on this coin reflects a broader regional wildlife series rather than a species with particular national significance to Brazzaville.
