The Colossus of Rhodes collapsed in 226 BC — an earthquake, not war — and ancient sources record that the Rhodians deliberately left the wreckage in place for centuries on the advice of an oracle. It never stood as long as it fell. This coin belongs to the broader wave of sub-Saharan CFA-zone novelty issues that accelerated sharply after 2010, produced almost entirely for the collector market rather than any domestic circulation, with the Ivory Coast lending its issuing authority to series designed and distributed by European mint and marketing intermediaries.
