| 背面描述 | Large denomination numeral 100 dominates the central field, rendered in bold relief with decorative filigree detailing within the numerals, with FRANCS inscribed below and the date 1978 beneath that. The word ESSAI appears above the numeral in the upper field. A decorative geometric border of zigzag and dot patterns frames the design, interrupted by six rectangular tab-like ornaments at regular intervals around the circumference. The upper legend BANQUE DES ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE CENTRALE is displayed on a ribbon scroll at the top of the coin. |

Jean-Bédel Bokassa proclaimed himself Emperor of the Central African Empire in December 1977, staging a coronation reportedly modeled on Napoleon's that cost an estimated $30 million — roughly a third of the country's annual budget, much of it financed by France. This essai was produced the following year as part of the new imperial coinage program, a vanity project that would outlast neither the regime nor French patience for it.
Bokassa was deposed in September 1979, largely in response to his personal involvement in the April massacre of schoolchildren who had protested mandatory uniform purchases. French forces installed his predecessor David Dacko within hours.
