The Republic of the Congo — not to be confused with the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo — has issued a steady stream of small-format gold coins through European licensing arrangements, primarily marketed to collectors in Western Europe rather than circulated domestically. This "Bible" issue belongs to that wave of sub-gram religious-themed gold pieces that flooded the numismatic market during the 2010s, produced under contract rather than reflecting any domestic monetary policy or religious significance particular to the issuing nation.
