The "Augustus" branding here is a commercial series designation, not a historical commission — these fractional gold pieces were produced for the souvenir and collector market under licensing arrangements common to several central African states that effectively rent their sovereign issuing authority to private minting firms, most often European. The Republic of the Congo has issued dozens of such pieces with no meaningful connection to its own monetary history.
