Pick 19A belongs to the immediate postwar reissue of a prewar design — the Banque de l'Indo-Chine was working from plates already in existence, with Banque de France handling production in Paris while Indochina itself was still in the process of being reoccupied following Japanese surrender. The notes reached circulation during a period of acute monetary instability, as the colonial administration scrambled to displace the Japanese military yen that had flooded the territory after March 1945.
The 1946 series was superseded relatively quickly by the Institut d'Émission des États Associés notes after 1952, limiting the active circulation window for this type.
